GHC's Nursing Simulation Lab Among 4 in WA to Earn Endorsement
Posted on: Jan, 27, 2025
The Nursing Simulation Lab at Grays Harbor College has achieved a prestigious national endorsement from the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL). GHC is one of only four Nursing programs in Washington State to receive this endorsement.
“This distinguished endorsement reflects our program’s dedication to providing high-quality education and simulation experiences,” said Associate Dean of Nursing Carol O’Neal, RN MN. “I am so proud of our team!” O’Neal credited Monica Todd, RN MN, for her work in the simulation lab. “Monica was integral in the designation.” Todd is a Certified Nurse Educator and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator and member of GHC’s Nursing faculty.
The endorsement specifically acknowledges the lab’s exceptional performance in four areas:
- Pre-Briefing: Focused on effective preparation, this process ensures simulation learners are ready for the educational content and understand the ground rules for the simulation-based experience.
- Facilitation: The program must provide skilled guidance and instruction throughout the simulation to fulfill this requirement.
- Professional Integrity: This standard ensures that the program upholds ethical standards and professionalism.
- Debriefing: To meet this standard, the program must include comprehensive post-simulation analysis and reflection.
About GHC’s Nursing Program
GHC offers two associate degrees in Nursing for students who wish to become licensed as a registered nurse. The Associate in Pre-Nursing is designed for students who wish to complete pre-requisites and transfer to a university to earn their bachelor's degree.
The second option, GHC’s Associate in Nursing DTA/MRP, can streamline the academic progression for Nursing students seeking a bachelor's degree after licensure. Most students take a year of admission and support courses prior to entry to this two-year program. Upon successful completion of the Associate of Nursing DTA/MRP, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for licensure as a Registered Nurse. In 2023, 100% of GHC’s Nursing graduates were employed as RNs within six months.
The Nursing program offers quarterly information and advising sessions. For more information, contact Karen Carriker at karen.carriker@ghc.edu.
