GHC Student Jacob Jimenez Competes in Statewide Inspirational Speech Championship

Grays Harbor College Student Jacob Jimenez recently competed in the Statewide Inspirational Speech Championship at Centralia College.

Each year, invitations are sent to all 34 community colleges in Washington State asking for nominations of the top public speaking students.  Once nominated, the students upload 3-minute audition videos which are judged by out of state communication professionals.  Those professionals then choose the top five to compete at Centralia College in the Statewide Inspirational Speech Championship.

This year, Dr. Andrew Gaines, Theatre Arts and Communications Instructor at GHC, nominated Jimenez, who was selected to compete as a top five speaker in this year’s championship.

In a speech titled, “A Story About Grandma,” Jimenez reflected on his childhood growing up with his grandmother and the inspiration she has provided throughout his life. Speeches can be viewed on Centralia College’s YouTube channel.
