Each year, Grays Harbor College recognizes students with the highest grade point average in the graduating class. Keegan Lee is one of the Top Scholars in the class of 2024, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Keegan studied Biology and Chemistry at GHC and graduated with a high school diploma, Associate in Biology - Direct Transfer, and an Associate in Arts - Direct Transfer. In addition to pursuing multiple degrees at GHC, Keegan completed an Associate of Science (General AS-DTA) from North Seattle College.

Before graduating from GHC with multiple degrees, Keegan thanked many people who helped along the way. “Thank you to my family, all my instructors, and Lori Christmas for her handling the logistics on my record number of schools with credit transfers!”

Keegan also shared many pieces of advice for future students:

  • Reward yourself with something fun after studying and remember that everyone goes through frustration and stress.
  • For research, Zotero was massively helpful.
  • I found the Opera browser’s workspaces feature to be helpful. I would give each of my classes their own workspace.
  • I used the calendar feature in Canvas to check due dates as well. When I took classes from more than one institution at the same time, I transferred all the Canvas calendars into a single Outlook calendar.

When reflecting on classes at GHC, Keegan said, “I’ve enjoyed all my classes at GHC, but the one that had the greatest impact on me was ENG 208 – Survey of British Literature: Origin to 1800. It rekindled my interest in the humanities and reminded me how languages are like living organisms. I loved getting a peek into the world hundreds of years ago and seeing how the English language evolved and how its usage changed.”

After graduation, Keegan plans to transfer to Oregon State University and is considering a Bachelor of Science in either Botany or Kinesiology with a minor in Chemistry. Keegan said, “I am interested in all the sciences, but I’ll be focusing on natural / health sciences initially.”

Keegan’s future goals include “creating educational content for math and science, starting with tutoring for STEM classes. I see myself working in international science communication and eventually becoming a professor.”
