Parking Enforcement Worker

Job Description

The Parking Enforcement Student Worker supports campus operations by enforcing parking regulations to ensure a safe, accessible, and organized environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role involves monitoring parking areas, documenting violations, and assisting with traffic flow during campus events. The student worker serves as a visible resource on campus, providing information on parking policies and directions when needed, while promoting accountability and compliance within the campus community. Through this position, the student worker gains valuable skills in communication, conflict resolution, and documentation, contributing to their personal and professional development. This person would report to the Safety and Security Coordinator.

Typical Duties

  1. Enforce Parking Regulations: Patrol designated parking areas to ensure compliance with campus parking policies, issuing warnings or citations for violations as needed.
  2. Monitor Accessible and Reserved Spaces: Ensure that accessible parking and reserved spaces are used appropriately and remain available for authorized individuals.
  3. Assist with Traffic Flow During Events: Provide support during campus events by directing traffic, managing temporary parking assignments, and ensuring smooth parking operations.
  4. Provide Campus Information and Directions: Serve as a point of contact for students, staff, and visitors, answering questions about parking policies, campus locations, and general campus information.
  5. Document Violations and Incidents: Accurately record parking violations, incidents, and relevant details to maintain a clear record for campus administration.
  6. Report Safety Concerns: Identify and report safety hazards in parking areas, such as blocked emergency lanes, poorly lit areas, or damaged signage, to appropriate campus authorities.
  7. Collaborate with Campus Safety Personnel: Coordinate with campus safety staff as needed, especially during high-traffic times or special events, to ensure safety and compliance.
  8. Educate Campus Community on Parking Policies: Promote understanding of parking regulations through respectful enforcement and communication, helping the campus community become more aware of and compliant with parking guidelines.
  9. Participate in Training and Development: Attend training sessions to develop skills in conflict resolution, documentation, and campus policy knowledge, enhancing performance and contributing to personal growth.
  10. Complete Administrative Tasks: Perform routine administrative tasks, such as filing reports, organizing parking-related materials, and keeping records up to date.

These duties help maintain a safe, accessible, and organized parking environment, supporting the overall operational efficiency and positive campus experience.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  1. Basic Knowledge of Campus Layout: Familiarity with the campus layout and building locations to provide accurate directions and assistance.
  2. Customer Service Experience: Prior experience in customer service or campus-based roles is beneficial, as it supports effective interaction with the campus community.
  3. Computer and Documentation Skills: Basic proficiency in using computers or mobile devices for recording incidents and completing administrative tasks accurately.

Prerequisite Classes

  1. None are required, although completion of any basic communication, conflict resolution, or customer service course is a plus.
