Welding Program Work Study

Summary

On Tuesday and Thursday night: Assist the night time welding instructors in the supervision and training of welding students during welding and cutting instruction and operations. 

In the Afternoons: Maintain and repair welding program equipment and training materials.  Improve shop infrastructure by building and/or modifying various racks, tables, work stations, jigs, training aides, etc.

Typical Duties

  • Supervise night course welding students
  • Monitor shop area for safety
  • Provide welding and cutting equipment setup instruction
  • Demonstrate welding and cutting equipment operation
  • Trouble shoot and repair equipment problems
  • Set up or help set up equipment and materials for instructional demonstrations by the instructor
  • Monitor and account for tools and supplies before and at end of class
  • Issue supplies and repair parts from supply room as needed

Employee Qualifications 

  • Must be a current GHC daytime welding student or a GHC welding program alumni.
  • Must have tools and personal safety equipment required of daytime welding program students.
  • Must exhibit professional conduct, language, personal appearance, and hygiene.
  • Must have good communication and social skills.
  • Must get along well with others.
  • Must follow directions.
  • Must be technically competent and adequately skilled to perform the tasks under “Typical Duties” above.
  • Will be selected from among welding program applicants based on a combination of academic merit, demonstrated strength in the qualification areas above, technical proficiency, and program seniority.
